Brad & Britt In The Morning
Monday - Friday: 6:00 AM - 10:00 AM

Show hosts Britt Whitmire and Brad Krantz;
Morning News Anchor John Brockwell, Meteorologist Randy Jackson

BRAD KRANTZ - In the words of the late, great WJM anchor Ted Baxter: "It all started at a 5000-watt radio station..." In Brad's case, that station was WTVN in Columbus, Ohio, his home town. Straight out of Ohio State University, class of '77 ... into the radio biz.... and the fun begins. From Columbus.. to Des Moines .. to Winston-Salem .. to Washington .. New York City .. Boston .. and the last move to Greensboro in 1987.

For the next decade Brad was the morning man on Rock 92 Radio in Greensboro, at which point he made the transition to become a talk show guy. First at WKEW in Greensboro, then at the legendary heritage talker WBT in Charlotte. There, he was honored in both 2002 and 2003 by being named to Talkers Magazine's 100 Most Important Talk Show Hosts in America list.

Brad's deep history in the Triad and his multi-format experience in radio are just the right combination to anchor mornings on FM Talk 101.1, WZTK.

Brad has lived in Greensboro for the past 17 years with his wife Jane and their two kids, David and Stephanie.

BRITT WHITMIREBritt Whitmire was born and raised in Transylvania County, in the southern mountains of North Carolina. Britt's family moved once to a house that was literally 2/10 of a mile from his old house. For his 16th birthday, his mother bought him a car ('79 Buick Regal Turbo with sweet astroturf top) and then had the nerve to make him pay for it. He found a job working part-time at WPNF-AM, the 1,000 watt (for those of you not in the biz, that's enough to cover about 10 miles, maybe) voice of Brevard and Transylvania County. Britt was quickly promoted to the key "afternoon drive" shift at the station and would hustle after school to entertain literally 8 listeners with lite rock and the ever-popular "trivia contest".

After graduation from Brevard High, Britt attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where he majored in communications and snagged a job at the hot-rockin' classic rock station, where he worked the graveyard shift a couple of nights a month and performed various tasks around the station in an attempt to be noticed. This is where he met the enigmatically cantankerous Brad Krantz, who encouraged Britt by not completely destroying his psyche.

After receiving his B.A. from UNCG (followed the honor code; mostly), Britt headed to Jacksonville/Camp Lejeune where he rocked the USMC on the "Rock and Roll Aninmal" WXQR-FM. Britt got his first taste of mornings in early 1993 and he's been an early riser ever since. From there, Britt went to 96.3/103.7 The Hot FM in Morehead City, where he suffered through boy bands and Celine Dion's "Titanic" ballad (near...far...wherever you are) as he entertained people from Wilmington to Virginia Beach.

After a short, horrible summer at Wilmington's "Jammin' 99.9" (worst General Manager ever; and he could be the next mayor of the Port City), Britt signed on for duty at 1075 KZL in the Triad as part of the "Murphy in the Morning" crew. For three and a half years, Britt established himself as a favorite of Triad listeners.

After being out of the business for more than a year, Brad called Britt up and told him to saddle up: Curtis Media was launching an FM Talk station and they wanted B&B to anchor mornings. Brad and Britt had remained friends for twenty years and they were finally getting the chance to work together as a team. It was a dream come true.

Today, the two have established themselves as a way of life for Triangle and Triad listeners. Most folks would simply walk around in a stupor and aimlessly hit themselves on the heads if they didn't get their daily dose of Brad and Britt. The show may be tough to define, but impossible to quit. You hear something "real" on the Brad and Britt show every day that you just can't hear anywhere else.

Curtis Media's pioneering FM Talk 101.1 WZTK continues to befuddle critics and competitors even as it delights and entertains listeners.

Britt and his wife Katie have been allowed to live in a house that is run by two dogs, who are effectively, their children. Bailey the beagle and Heidi the pit bull mix are rescue dogs who peacefully co-exist (most of the time).

Britt enjoys cooking, wrestling, buying infomercial crap on tv, sports of all sorts, and the band Pearl Jam. If you really want to know, he'll tell you the story about "bombing" at the tryouts for "Last Comic Standing".

JOHN BROCKWELL John came to WZTK in June 2004 to assist in developing the current News/Talk format as station Director of Operations. John is also the morning newsman for the Brad & Britt Show.

In addition to his work at FM Talk 101.1 WZTK, John is also the senior producer for the Carolina Hurricanes Radio Network, a position he has held since the Canes came to North Carolina in 1997.

Prior to coming to WZTK, John spent eight seasons as producer/engineer for the Duke Radio Network, and before that, six seasons as producer/engineer for the Wake Forest Sports Network. John also spent several years at the newly acquired Curtis Media Group station WSJS-AM in Winston-Salem, where he co-hosted the morning show and hosted his own sports talk show.

John grew up in Raleigh, NC and graduated from Wingate University in 1980. He has been in the broadcast industry since 1979, working in Virginia, Charlotte, Durham, Winston-Salem, Greensboro and Burlington, NC.

John and his wife Deirdre live in Burlington, NC.
